Alasdair Gold says Daniel Levy wouldn’t sign Porto hitman, Mehdi Taremi, amid talk of Harry Kane’s Tottenham future.

With Harry Kane’s future up in the air, Tottenham still have to plan ahead and that’s the unwanted situation of their club-record goalscorer leaving this summer.

Amid suggestions that one of the names that could come in is Mehdi Taremi, well, Football London journalist, Alasdair Gold has poured cold water over it by claiming that it’s an ‘un-Daniel Levy-like’ deal, as he told his own YouTube channel.

In terms of experience and recent form, Taremi ticks a lot of boxes, including Champions League experience and scoring 22 goals for Porto in the league last season.

That also includes five goals from seven Champions League matches, with the 31-year-old, who is a year older than Kane, also netting 33 from 66 matches for Iran.

Despite that strong record, Gold can’t see it happening, amid other reports claiming that a deal could be ‘in sight’.

“I saw Mehdi Taremi linked as well,” said Gold. “It’s a difficult one that. A very good striker. Lots of experience. 31-years-old, though. Older than Kane.

“I saw figures of £30 million touted for him. That sounds like the most un-Daniel Levy deal possible. £30 million for a 31-year-old, who I think only has one-year left on his deal as well.

“That doesn’t strike me as the ideal Tottenham move to make.”

Big pressure on Levy

There have been a lot of verbals thrown at Levy in recent times, including from the Spurs faithful who want their chairman to go.

But he is still running the ship and this summer is one of the most important for the club.

They are at a crossroads in regards to Kane’s future, not being in Europe, a new manager coming in and a refresh needed.

If Levy gets this one wrong, then it might just be the end of the road for him.
