Rangers have been linked with Umar Sadiq, with The Scottish Sun reporting that new Gers manager Steven Gerrard wants to bring the striker to Ibrox on loan from AS Roma.

It has been reported that Rangers want to secure the services of Sadiq on a loan deal from Italian club Roma in the summer transfer window.

The 21-year-old striker, who cost Roma £2 million in transfer fees when they signed him from Spezia in 2016 as reported by The Scottish Sun, has responded to Rangers’ reported interest in him.

The Nigeria Under-23, who spent the second half of the past season on loan at Dutch club NAC Breda, has said that he is happy at Roma, but the youngster has stated that he would love to work with Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard in the future.

Sadiq told Owngoalnigeria.com when asked about reported Rangers’ interest: “Few players of my age will say no to working with Gerrard.

“Rangers are also a traditional team but for the moment I’m happy at Roma and hope to be a part of the team next season. For now that is my plan, maybe in the future I will get to work with Gerrard.”

Smart idea?

Rangers are a massive club, but Roma are a big team as well, and it would make sense for Sadiq to stay at the Italian club and fight for his place.

After all, moving to Rangers would be a temporary deal, while his long-term future is at Roma.
