Ole Gunnar Solskjaer hailed Jesse Lingard in his press conference as the ‘ultimate professional’ amid rumours that West Ham want to sign him.

The Times have claimed that West Ham are set to sign Lingard on-loan from Manchester United before the window slams shut next week.

The technically-gifted attacker hasn’t played in the Premier League this season and he was left out of his side’s matchday squad that progressed through to the FA Cup fifth round on Sunday.

Even though minutes have been hard to come by for the reported West Ham man, Solskjaer spoke in glowing terms about the player and his future.

“Jesse trained [in the morning of the Liverpool game], he wasn’t in the squad so, of course, he wants to play football,” said Solskjaer.

“We will have to sit down and see with Jesse and make a decision, so what are we going to do?”

“He has, so far, been the ultimate professional. Always trains. I will sit down with him again if anything comes up. I am very happy to have Jesse because I know that he could have played [against Liverpool] and done well.”

It does seem as though the best decision for Lingard would be to leave Old Trafford because it has been a difficult two years for the player.

After featuring for England at the 2018 World Cup, he’s now not even in the picture heading into the delayed Euro 2020 this summer.

But moving to a thriving West Ham side might do him the world of good because his attacking qualities backed by the combative and defensive intelligence of Delcan Rice and Tomas Soucek might just work out pretty well.
