Allan McGregor is one of the unsung heroes of Rangers’ Premiership title success.
Under Steven Gerrard, Rangers are champions of Scotland again for the first time in a decade following what’s been a brilliant season.
The Gers are on 93 points – 20 ahead of Celtic – and are yet to lose a Premiership game this season.
And McGregor has played a massive role in Rangers’ unbeaten streak.
At the age of 39, the veteran goalkeeper shows no sign of slowing down and Kris Boyd has told The Scottish Sun that he is simply the ‘ultimate professional’ in training, which explains his longevity.
He said: “There have not been many that have trained at the level Allan McGregor has.
“He is in the gym every morning and after every session. He’s 39 now and you don’t put in the performances and make big saves at crucial times if you don’t look after yourself. For me, he is the ultimate professional.”
Winning the Premiership is one thing, but defending it is always a little harder and McGregor – who turns 40 next January – will hope that he can remain as influential for Rangers beyond this season.
The former Scotland international signed a one-year contract extension a little earlier this month to ensure he’s still in Gerrard’s squad come next season, with his deal scheduled to expire this summer.
