It’s perhaps indicative of the circus at Tottenham Hotspur that as things stand, Ryan Mason will be taking charge of senior training next week.

The Spurs players are returning to Hotspur Way on July 5 for the start of their pre-season calendar.

It has been over two months since Mason was placed in charge of Tottenham’s senior side on an interim basis following Jose Mourinho’s departure.

But with no replacement hired as of yet, Mason will more than likely be the man to oversee training next Monday if there’s no change on this front.

And that just about sums up the situation at Tottenham right now.

Earlier this afternoon, Mason, who turned 30 this month, revealed on Instagram that he was excited about returning to the training ground, presumably to resume his work with the academy prospects.

But there’s a real chance he’ll be working with the first-team stars again until Daniel Levy and new managing director Fabio Paratici hire a replacement.

Here’s how some Lilywhites fans responded to Mason’s IG post:

Who will it be?

Tottenham are in advanced talks with former Wolverhampton Wanderers boss Nuno Espirito Santo, according to Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio on Friday.

That being said, no Spurs fan will be reading too much into the speculation about anyone until something is officially announced.

That’s because Mauricio Pochettino, Antonio Conte, Paulo Fonseca and Gennaro Gattuso were all reportedly on the brink of being appointed at various stages over the past month.

Levy was also turned down by Brendan Rodgers and Julian Nagelsmann earlier in the search for Mourinho’s replacement.

But for now, it’s looking like Nuno, but it seems unlikely that it’ll be done before pre-season begins on July 5.
