Tottenham smashed the Gills on Wednesday night in North London.
Tottenham Hotspur thumped Gillingham 5-0 at White Hart Lane last night to reach the fourth round of the League Cup.
Christian Eriksen opened the scoring on 31 minutes to give an under-strength Tottenham side a slender 1-0 half-time lead, before he then doubled the advantage very early into the second half.
Spurs £17 million signing Vincent Janssen added a 50th-minute penalty shortly afterwards – his first goal for the club.
Joshua Onomah – one of three young Tottenham academy graduates in Mauricio Pochettino’s first XI, along with Cameron Carter-Vickers and Harry Winks – struck a fourth not long after the hour mark, before Erik Lamela completed the rout.
There was further reason to celebrate when highly-rated duo Anton Walkes and Marcus Edwards joined their fellow academy stars on the pitch for what was the pair’s senior competitive debut with the Lilywhites.
One man who perhaps knows the starlets better than first-team boss Mauricio Pochettino is academy coach Ugo Ehiogu, and the 43-year-old reserved praise for Edwards and Walkes following their second-half cameos.
Pochettino will hope to continue using them in this competition, but after being paired with Liverpool in the next round, there is less room to experiment and more emphasis on tried-and-tested personnel perhaps.
