It’s not just Tony Ferguson who’s trying to find his way back to the win column. Melvin Guillard, another former UFC lightweight, is also looking to break a long streak of losses.

Even at 42, Guillard still carries that ‘anytime, anywhere’ mentality. The veteran has fought 60 times in his career and made 20 appearances under the UFC banner, facing names like Nate Diaz and Donald Cerrone along the way.

But the past decade hasn’t been kind to him. Once riding a five-fight winning streak in the Octagon, he hasn’t picked up a victory since 2014.

That year marked the start of a tough stretch for Guillard, beginning with a loss to Justin Gaethje. Since then, he’s faced defeats against notable fighters like Israel Adesanya and Takanori Gomi.

After losing by first-round submission to Josiah Harrell in May, Guillard brushed off calls for retirement and made it clear he wasn’t done yet.

Next up for him is another prospect hoping to make his way into the UFC.

Guillard has stepped in on just one day’s notice to replace another opponent, taking on unbeaten welterweight Isaac Moreno at Fury FC 106 this Friday.

The bout was confirmed on Wednesday evening after Moreno had already gone through four different opponent changes.

Guillard shared his reaction with a simple “Always ready,” posted to his Instagram story.

Moreno responded by posting, “5 time the charm?” along with, “God always has a plan. Don’t blink…”

Moreno comes into the fight with a 6-0 record as a professional, including three knockouts. This will be his first fight back after two years away from the cage. The 27-year-old will be looking to add another loss to Guillard’s current streak, which now stands at ten.

The event will take place at the Alario Center in New Orleans, Louisiana, just one night before Dustin Poirier’s retirement bout at UFC 318. Fans can catch all the action live on UFC Fight Pass.

Looking back at Guillard’s split decision loss to Justin Gaethje in 2014

Not long after parting ways with the UFC, Guillard found himself competing for the World Series of Fighting (WSOF) title.

His last victory came against Gesias Cavalcante in his promotional debut. Soon after, he was lined up to face lightweight champion Justin Gaethje at WSOF 15.

Guillard missed weight by four pounds, which turned what was meant to be a title fight into a non-title bout.

The bout went the distance, with Gaethje coming out on top via split decision to move his record to 13-0.
