Tom Aspinall is often seen as a unique figure in the heavyweight division, and UFC icon Michael Bisping has even likened him to a legend of the boxing world.
The 32-year-old fighter, now recognised as the undisputed champion, will defend his title for the first time against Ciryl Gane at UFC 321 in Abu Dhabi.
It is Aspinall’s first appearance since last July when he successfully defended his interim title against Curtis Blaydes. Since then, he’s brought a new coach into his team to help prepare for the unique challenges that Gane presents.
The Brit posted a video from training that grabbed plenty of attention online. He punched straight through a heavy bag, snapping it clean off its chains in one session.
Michael Bisping likens Tom Aspinall to Muhammad Ali ahead of UFC 321
Over the course of his career, Aspinall has always stood out from other heavyweights. His fighting style is distinctively different from what is typically seen in the division.
In the lead-up to UFC 321, former UFC star Michael Bisping spoke with Bloody Elbow, drawing a notable comparison between the Briton and boxing icon Muhammad Ali.
“Obviously I’ve always been a big (supporter of) Tom Aspinall, I’ve always said how great he is, I don’t need to repeat myself, I thought he would’ve beaten Jon Jones if I’m honest, not that that’s a disrespect to Jon Jones I think Jones is incredible.”

Bisping added: “Ciryl Gane is an interesting one because out of all of the heavyweights, he’s probably the most athletic, he’s probably the only man that can match Tom in terms of movement, in fact, he’s probably more athletic and lighter on the feet than Aspinall.
“Tom’s gigantic as well, he’s big and light on his feet, he can move. I always say he’s like an MMA Muhammad Ali or a heavyweight Georges St-Pierre. He can grapple; he can do it all… I heavily lean towards Tom Aspinall in this fight.”
Aspinall no longer interested in fighting Jones
Following Jon Jones’ announcement that he will make his UFC return at the White House event in July 2026, fans started talking again about a possible matchup with Aspinall.
However, the heavyweight champion has said he’s no longer interested in facing Jones and doesn’t have any desire to compete at the historic White House event either.
