The UFC cut off Sean Strickland’s microphone during the UFC Houston postfight press conference after the former champion launched into another controversial rant.

Sean Strickland had just secured a third-round TKO victory over Anthony Hernandez in the main event at Toyota Center when the situation unfolded.

The development forced the promotion to intervene publicly in a rare move following a marquee bout.

Press conference halted after Strickland shifts tone

Strickland spent several minutes answering questions about his win before redirecting the conversation toward broader cultural and political topics.

The remarks followed a week in which he had already drawn criticism for similar themes during media appearances.

The press conference initially focused on his performance before shifting away from fight analysis and into politically charged commentary involving different communities.

As the commentary continued, members of the UFC’s public relations staff stepped in, and the live press conference feed abruptly lost audio from Strickland.

Although he continued speaking inside the room, viewers watching the official broadcast could no longer hear his comments.

The intervention came during the promotion’s first Fight Night event under its new seven-year, $7.7 billion U.S. broadcast agreement with Paramount+, placing additional focus on how the moment was handled.

Dana White addresses fallout from Strickland episode

UFC president Dana White was asked about managing Strickland’s public persona during a week that began with controversy and ended with a decisive victory in Houston.

“It’s a nightmare.”

White also suggested that certain media questions can steer conversations away from fighting and into areas that generate backlash.

“You guys don’t help. Asking him dumb s—. Ask dumb s—, you’re going to get dumb s—. ‘What’d you think of Bad Bunny? What’d you think of the Super Bowl?’”

“Get the f— out of here. Are you f— kidding me? So, when you talk about what Strickland says, you guys like to push the buttons.”

The episode highlighted the ongoing tension between Strickland’s unfiltered approach and the UFC’s broader commercial partnerships as the organization expands its media footprint.
