AC Milan are now reportedly leading the chase to sign Premier League star Ismaila Sarr, with Newcastle United also in the race for the Senegal international.

According to CalcioMercato, the Rossoneri are keen on signing the Watford attacker this summer, with Sarr set to leave the Hornets as Roy Hodgson’s side once again look set for the drop just one season after being promoted from the Championship.

Sarr has long been one of Watford’s best players and a talent who has been eyed by many top clubs in England, with Newcastle said to be interested in the winger this summer, who was signed for a staggering £40m in 2019 as per Sky Sports News.

With Newcastle set to go big on signings this summer under their PIF owners, Sarr could be a great addition to Eddie Howe’s side, though Milan could once again threaten to beat them to another target.

LOSC Lille defender Sven Botman looked set to join Newcastle from the reigning French champions in January. However, a deal was compromised by Milan, who have reportedly won the race for the towering Dutch defender ahead of the summer.

Indeed, Milan’s project under manager Stefan Pioli and technical director Paolo Maldini is one of the most exciting in Europe, and for Newcastle, it could see the Italian giants once again beat them to a transfer target in Sarr.

Newcastle could realistically lose out to Milan for Sarr this summer

After losing out on Botman, Newcastle’s record in beating Milan to targets is currently not the best, and it could only get worse if the UEFA Champions League titans also beat the Magpies to Sarr this summer, who Ben Foster has labelled as a ‘frightening’ talent.

After all, a move to one of Europe’s biggest clubs in Milan would be appealing to Sarr, who has proven with Watford that he has the quality to compete with the best the Premier League has to offer, something Newcastle are not at the stage for just yet.
