Juventus have resumed talks with Borussia Monchengladbach over a transfer for reported Everton target Denis Zakaria, which would in turn allow Arthur Melo to then join Arsenal.

That’s according to Gianluca Di Marzio, who reports the Bianconeri have now made a fresh approach to Die Fohlen. The Serie A outfit are determined to sign a new central midfielder before granting Arthur a move to north London.

The Gunners are always pressing for the Brazilian’s arrival at the Emirates Stadium to hand Mikel Arteta a winter reinforcement. But Massimiliano Allegri is delaying the 25-year-old’s exit whilst he outlines a succession plan in Turin.

Juventus had already considered targeting new midfield signings in 2022 with Zakaria also a player on their radar. Gladbach have confirmed the Swiss is leaving Borussia-Park, at least this summer, as he will not sign a new contract.

But rather than wait for Zakaria to become free, Juventus have resumed talks with Borussia Monchengladbach for a transfer. The Old Lady want the 25-year-old to replace Arthur now, providing he joins Arsenal in a permanent transfer.

Juventus to make Arsenal buy Arthur in permanent transfer?

Arsenal want to sign Arthur in a loan transfer from Juventus and the Evening Standard note they agreed to cover his £80k-a-week wage. But Gunners Technical Director Edu may have to buy the Brazilian, who cost up to £75m to sign from Barcelona.

Edu agreeing a deal for Arsenal to buy Arthur from Juventus could deny Everton a transfer target, too, should Zakaria also leave Borussia Monchengladbach as Allegri’s replacement.

Reports by 90min note Everton contacted Zakaria’s agent to register their transfer interest when Borussia Monchengladbach announced his imminent farewell. Now, the Toffees may have to eye a January deal to avoid missing out to the Champions League Bianconeri.

Die Fohlen are open to selling Zakaria in January so he does not leave the club for free this summer. Bild note they have set a £6m asking price to sanction any winter switch.
