Tyrone Mings has been one of the very few positives for Aston Villa in recent weeks.
Aston Villa ace Tyrone Mings has admitted that ‘it would be important’ for the club to have absent duo Jack Grealish and Tom Carroll back in the squad because it could bring some much-needed ‘momentum shift’.
Playmaker Grealish has not played for his boyhood club since December, while January addition Carroll has not featured for his new side since making his debut against Reading.
In their absence, Villa have continued to crumble on the pitch and fall further behind in the promotion race following their demoralising defeat to West Brom last time out.
Nonetheless, centre-back Mings spoke about their potential return to the squad for the visit of Stoke City on Saturday and explained how much it would lift the team if they were to make a comeback.
“Absolutely [it will be a boost],” Mings told AVTV. “Every time a new player comes into the squad it can have a positive impact. It would be great if they come back in that they can have a positive effect.
“I think it will really lift everybody and show what they can do. Jack, of course, speaks for himself. How long he has been here. His performances speak for themselves. Tom is a very good player as well.
“It would be important for us to get them back and trying to get some momentum shift.”
If both Grealish and Carroll do return to the squad then they will provide a much-needed freshness to the middle of the park, an area where Dean Smith’s side have arguably suffered the most in recent times.
Amongst all the bad results and performances, Bournemouth loanee Mings has been one of a few bright sparks for the team as he had added presence, quality and balance to Villa’s backline.
He will be hoping his teammates can take some of that positive form and turn it into a positive result as Dean Smith’s side search for only their second win this year.
Finishing in the Championship’s top-six now looks unrealistic because they are nine points adrift having played a number of games more than some of those teams above them.
