Tyrone Mings has taken to Twitter to laud Jack Grealish following Aston Villa’s derby win on Sunday, with the defender insisting that the captain deserves all the plaudits that have been coming his way following the game.
Grealish was at the centre of all the headlines following Dean Smith’s side’s victory against Birmingham City at the weekend. After the ugly incident involving the spectator during the first-half, Grealish produced the decisive moment as he scored the only goal to leave the Villans just four points outside the play-off places.
The 23-year-old has rightly been lauded for the way that he showed remarkable composure after being punched by the spectator. And he responded to the incident in the perfect manner by scoring the winning goal.
It should perhaps come as no surprise that Villa have managed to put back-to-back wins together for the first time since November – when, interestingly, they also beat Derby and Birmingham – in the two games since Grealish made his return from injury.
Villa had looked to be out of the play-off race just a couple of weeks ago. But with five of the top seven still to play in their remaining games of the campaign, it appears that Smith’s side still have a real opportunity to extend their season.
And Villa will certainly be looking to Grealish to provide the moments of inspiration that are going to keep their hopes alive, with Mings becoming the latest to laud his teammate following the weekend.
