Aston Villa boss Dean Smith has seen his side fail to beat 10 men on two separate occasions this season.

Villa looked to be on their way to an unexpected three points at the Emirates Stadium, after they led twice against the Gunners, who had been sent down to 10 men.
However, Arsenal scored twice in the final stages of the contest, to ensure that Villa returned to the Midlands empty handed.
Mings felt that Villa dropped far too deep during the contest, although he says that Dean Smith didn’t tell them to press higher.
Smith apparently did not communicate too many instructions on to the pitch as Villa struggled to hold on.
But Mings thinks that Villa’s players should have realised the problems for themselves.
“The manager didn’t really give us a message but we should have been able to troubleshoot on the pitch,” the centre-back said.
“We’re a pressing team and we like to go and press. We just stopped doing that.

“As a team we need to be a bit braver and go and stop teams higher up the pitch, especially with a man advantage. But we said the same after Tottenham when we appeared to drop off so it’s a tough one to take.
“I don’t question the group of lads that we’ve got one bit. There’s just certain elements of our game – and when certain things happen – it seems to affect us in a negative way, rather than a positive.”
Villa’s start to the season has been a frustrating one, as they have had opportunities to collect more points than they have.
Villa have now twice failed to beat 10 men sides, and that has to be a concern for Smith.
The claret and blues’ defeat yesterday has left them sitting in 18th place in the Premier League table.
