A transfer report about Tottenham Hotspur has some fans of the North London club in stitches.
Spurs have been tracking Vedat Muriqi of Fenerbahce for quite a few months now.
And on Thursday, A Spor reported that Tottenham had made a £4.5 million bid for the 26-year-old.
Problem is, it’s been widely reported that Fenerbahce are looking for a minimum of £22 million for their star striker [Fanatik].
Lilywhites chairman Daniel Levy has a reputation for being one of the best negotiators in the business, but such reputations aren’t earned without occasionally making ridiculous offers.
One famous and relatively recent example that springs to mind is when Levy offered £3 million and Josh Onomah for Jack Grealish less than two years ago [The Independent], when the Aston Villa star was already an established player.
Here’s how Tottenham fans reacted on Twitter to Levy’s latest reported transfer effort:
It’s easy to see the funny side and make fun of Levy here, but he hasn’t done much wrong.
In this climate, when Europe’s richest clubs are reportedly going to be relying on swap deals for the next transfer window, offering £4.5 million for a player with no Premier League experience isn’t that ridiculous.
That sum isn’t as low now as it was before the global health crisis started wreaking havoc on European football and its club’s finances.
Nobody is going to be paying £22 million for Vedat Muriqi this summer – why should Tottenham?
