Tyler Roberts shows why West Brom cannot let his contract run down with stunning goal

West Bromwich Albion loanee Tyler Roberts scored a stunning goal as Walsall beat Fleetwood Town in League One.

Towards the end of a pulsating League One contest between Walsall and Fleetwood Town at Banks’s Stadium on Tuesday night, the Saddlers managed to grab the upper hand with a moment of quality that would not have looked out of place in the Premier League.

Tyler Roberts played a crucial part in settling the game, putting Walsall 3-2 in front in the 89th minute with an absolutely stunning goal from the corner of the box that found the top corner, and then setting up the home side’s fourth to wrap up the three points.

And there is no question that his contribution to the game will not have gone unnoticed by West Brom – the club Roberts is on loan at the League One side from.

Roberts has been excellent for the third tier side, scoring five and contributing three assists in the league, so it would be no surprise if a number of Baggies supporters were wishing the club would bring Roberts back to The Hawthorns, especially with West Brom enduring a terrible run having not won a game since August.

But unfortunately for West Brom, it appears entirely possible that he has already played his final game for the Baggies, with The Times recently reporting that he has previously turned down a new five-year deal with the club and is set to be out of contract at the end of the season.

Given Roberts’ form, West Brom simply cannot allow the 18-year-old to walk away at the end of his contract without putting up a fight as his form with Walsall hints that he could bring some of the excitement that the current side appear to be lacking, once he returns from his loan.

Of course, he may not be ready to be a regular starter in the Premier League, but his form with Walsall shows that he has the potential to be a fantastic player in the future, and West Brom would be making a massive mistake if they do not do all they can to try and convince him to agree to fresh terms at The Hawthorns.
