Speaking on The Beautiful Game Podcast, Tyler Roberts has shared how Patrick Bamford reacted to being snubbed by England.

Bamford has been one of the best strikers in the Premier League this season, netting 17 goals for Leeds as the Whites cemented a place in the top four, but he’s continuously been snubbed by Gareth Southgate.

The England manager has never picked Bamford for a squad, most recently leaving him out of his 33-man provisional roster for the European Championships.

In our view, Bamford would have every right to be annoyed after such a remarkable season, but Roberts says that he wasn’t angry at all about being left out.

What’s been said?

Roberts says that Bamford wasn’t angered by Southgate’s decision, claiming that he’s just caried on working hard.

“Patrick is just a proper chilled out guy. He’s great to be around, he’s in the Premier League now and he’s taken it all in his stride really. Ever since he came to the club his finishing has been A1, his finishing is on point. There’ve been videos that have come out of training and his finishing is very good.

“It wasn’t a surprise to anybody at the club that he’s scored these goals, it was more about getting the opportunities and having the confidence to consistently put goals away, and he’s done it.”

“His elegance, he hits it so cleanly. In terms of Premier League strikers he has to be up there because of this season, I think he should have got the England call, he’s scored so many goals and he’s up there on the top scorers list and it’s unfortunate that he didn’t, but, you know, he wasn’t angry about it, he’s just carried on working hard and hopefully he’ll get that call.”

Best approach

This is exactly the type of mindset you want to see from a player in this situation.

If Bamford had let this affect him, there’s every chance that his game would have suffered because of it, but the fact that he has just got his head down and tried to kick on is exactly what you want to hear.

If Bamford carries on working hard and playing the way he has, then surely Southgate can’t ignore him for much longer.
