Leeds United forward Tyler Roberts has been reflecting on his decision to sign with the club in January 2018.

Roberts quit West Bromwich Albion six months before his contract expired, with Leeds seeing off competition from rival sides for the highly rated young talent.

While injury meant that Roberts’ Leeds career got off to an infamously disastrous start, he has begun to kick on and show promise under the tutelage of Marcelo Bielsa.

Speaking to Leeds’ official website, Roberts said that he was at the point of his career where he needed a change, having grown tired of being sent out on loan deals.

He said: “I was at West Brom, I had just finished a loan spell at Walsall, and I wanted to cement a first-team place there.

“It was made obvious that it wasn’t going to be that season or maybe the season after, I kind of had enough of going out on loan and moving to different teams, so I wanted to settle and fight for a spot.

“Leeds were interested, said that I’d be part of the first-team, it’s a massive club and it was pretty much a no brainer for me.”

Roberts is still battling to become an automatic starter for Leeds, but he is a vital squad player.

He has 13 first team appearances this season, another campaign which has been impacted by injury, and three goals.

Two of these came in Leeds’ 4-0 demolition of Hull shortly before the break.

He needs to hit the ground running when he returns, and play his part as Leeds battle to seal promotion. Roberts could end up playing a vital role.
