Leeds United striker Tyler Roberts has told BBC West Yorkshire Sport that Marcelo Bielsa changed his role and opened his eyes to a new way of playing.

Roberts started life this season as a wide-man, but after Leeds suffered with injuries, the youngster has started in a more central position.

Roberts has been tasked with leading the line for Leeds on multiple occasions this term.

And the striker said: “I started as a winger with him and he’s seen me come away with Wales and play the number nine role, which obviously helped me. “Just getting back into the team, being a number nine, he’s taught me a lot about runs in behind and staying up the pitch and making those sort of movements.

“It’s helped me massively and opened my eyes to another part of my game which I didn’t see before.”

Roberts made a slow start at Leeds after arriving in January in a £2.5 million (YEP) deal due to injury, but he has impressed this term.

Roberts has dropped back into a more rotational role at Leeds recently, since the return of Kemar Roofe from injury.

The youngster is now away on international duty with Wales, where he could feature in Ryan Giggs’ side’s matches against Denmark and Albania.
