Leeds United forward has the opportunity to play a key role in title race.

Leeds United's Kemar Roofe celebrates scoring his side's equalising goal with Jack Clarke at Elland Road on October 27, 2018 in Leeds, England.

Kemar Roofe has suffered knee ligament damage and faces a spell on the sidelines, the club confirmed.

With 14 goals in 26 games, Roofe’s absence is a big blow for the club’s promotion hopes.

Patrick Bamford will step in, and there is likely to be a large role once again for Tyler Roberts.

Leeds signed Roberts for £4 million last January and his stint at the club had a disastrous start after he picked up a season ending injury right away.

Roberts has remained fit this season, but has been used irregularly by Marcelo Bielsa.

He has not played 90 minutes in the league for Leeds since October. He has been used as a substitute for the last two games.

Roberts has been tried in the number 10 role vacated by Samu Saiz, and this was a position where Leeds were beginning to experiment Roofe in.

Patrick Bamford will shoulder responsibility for goals with Roofe out, but Roberts will be expected to contribute.

His last goal was a winner against Hull in October, during a run where he scored three in four games and provided an assist.

This came while Roofe was out injured, and Bamford was also out.

Leeds need Roberts to step up and find that form again to keep their promotion hopes moving.

If he can, he will show himself to be the most important signing of the Radrizzani era. Roberts has a real chance now to kick on.
