Roberts finally pulled on a Leeds shirt on Sunday afternoon.
Leeds United forward Tyler Roberts has told the club’s official website that he has been shocked by how much he has learned during Marcelo Bielsa’s training sessions.
The 19-year-old forward joined Leeds back in the January transfer window but immediately suffered an ankle injury which kept him on the sidelines for the rest of the 2017-18 season – without making a single Leeds appearance.
A Wales youth international, Roberts could now be in line to start up front against Stoke City on August 5 after finally pulling on a Leeds shirt for the first time as a substitute in a friendly against Southend United on Sunday afternoon.
Speaking after the 1-1 draw at Roots Hall, teenage star Roberts said “it is crazy” how much he has learned since returning to training under the former Argentina manager.
“We have a new manager and the players are buying into everything that he has been doing,” Roberts said. “Everyone was excited to work with him, knowing his background and what he has done.
“Now we are working with him, it has been a learning experience and a good one as well, it is crazy how much you can learn in such a short space of time.
“But he’s definitely imposed himself on the team. I think everyone is getting the hang of it and getting through it together and getting the tactics right.”
Leeds are likely to be in the market for a new striker, with Caleb Ekuban reportedly transfer listed (Yorkshire Evening Post), and only Kemar Roofe, Roberts, and youngsters Ryan Edmondson and Sam Dalby considered as options.
Bielsa’s side still have Oxford United to play on Tuesday night, before facing minnows Guiseley and then La Liga outfit Las Palmas before the club’s first league game of the season.
