Leeds United have announced new long-term contracts for Joe Gelhardt, Sam Greenwood and Crysencio Summerville on Tuesday morning – and both Tyler Adams and Liam Cooper posted reaction on Gelhardt’s Instagram.
Gelhardt, 20, broke into the Leeds side during the first half of the season under Marcelo Bielsa. He ended the season by starting the last two Premier League matches. He ended the season with six goal involvements in 22 appearances.

He scored a crucial winner against Norwich City, and vital assists against Burnley and Wolves. While his goal against Norwich was pivotal, his assist against Brighton got everyone talking, chipping across for Pascal Struijk to score.
Gelhardt has signed the longest of the three deals, until the summer of 2027 – while Summerville and Greenwood have new deals until 2026. He posted on Instagram after putting pen to paper, underlining his delight: “made up”.
Cooper and Adams reaction: New long-term Leeds contract for Gelhardt
It was a move, especially for Gelhardt, that was desperately needed. Many believe Gelhardt could be the breakthrough talent of the 2022-23 season after showing glimpses of quality in 2021-22. But he had two years left on his deal.
So, penning Gelhardt down until the summer of 2027 was a no-brainer for Leeds. Yes, Summerville’s deal ended next summer and was important, but Gelhardt is easily the best talent the club currently boast.
Captain Cooper responded to Gelhardt’s post on Instagram by informing the ex-Wigan talent that his deal was “deserved”. New signing Adams also responded, posting “King Joffy”.
