Aston Villa were reportedly interested in bringing Browning to the Championship on loan from Premier League outfit Everton.
One month after being linked with a loan move to Aston Villa, Tyias Browning has sealed a shock switch to China.
According to Sky Sports, Villa were keen to recruit the 24-year-old on loan from Everton for the rest of the season with Dean Smith keen to add to his centre-half options during the January transfer window.
Browning certainly needed a fresh start after failing to feature for Everton’s first team since Marco Silva arrived, having struggled badly during a nightmare loan spell at Sunderland in the 2017/18 season.
A few weeks later, however, the Liverpool-born defender was made the switch to the Far East rather than the Midlands.
According to The Mail, Browning has joined Guangzhou Evergrande for £4 million. And while many will cast scorn on Browning’s decision to continue his career in Asia, he could learn a lot from Guangzhou coach Fabio Cannavaro – who was the last defender to win the Ballon D’Or in 2006.
But should Villa be disappointed to miss out for good?
They have been in a dismal run of form under Smith but the additions of Tyrone Mings and Kortney Hause, on loan from Bournemouth and Wolves, have at least given the fans something to smile about with some promising performances in recent weeks.
