RCD Espanyol last night confirmed the loan signing of Manchester City midfielder Yangel Herrera on loan.
The La Liga side posted on their official website that the Venezuelan international had signed for the club for the season. Espanyol is the third Spanish club Herrera has joined on loan from City.
The midfielder was a star player for Granada last campaign as the Andalusian club flourished in the UEFA Europa League. And Herrera was a key part of Granada’s success, something he will be hoping to replicate with Granada.
Indeed, it was highly expected that Herrera would leave Manchester for good this summer. The Sun reported that City were listening to offers of £20m for the midfielder, with numerous clubs keen.
However, no official offer came in for the 23-year-old. And as a result, Herrera will now spend the season out on loan once again, this time with the Barcelona-based side Espanyol.
It was a transfer that received little fan fair across City’s channels. Yet on social media, fans were frustrated that Herrera had gone out on loan to Espanyol, with supporters hoping the midfielder would be sold for good.

Here’s what some City fans had to say about Herrera joining Espanyol on loan for the season on Twitter…
