Manchester City reportedly offered more money to Lionel Messi last year than what the Argentine attacker will make currently with PSG.

According to the Athletic, the Premier League giants put together a greater financial package for the footballing legend last summer.

Messi wanted to leave FC Barcelona last year, with City then the favourites to sign the forward.

However, as we know, Messi decided to stay with Barcelona in what would be his final season with the Catalan giants. The attacker left the club this summer following the expiration of his contract.

And PSG were quick to land Messi. The French club announced the signing of the 34-year-old attacker just days after his farewell press conference in Barcelona.

Indeed, it was one of the most surprising and biggest transfers in the history of football. After all, not many believed that City target Messi could one day leave Barcelona.

But the events that transpired did actually happen. Yet for City fans on social media, they are fuming that the club didn’t act more aggressively this window to sign Messi.

Indeed, the club seemingly offered Messi a massive wage to join City. But as we know, the attacker remained in La Liga with Barcelona.

Here’s what some City fans had to say about the new details on the club’s failed move to sign Messi last summer on Twitter…
