The one that got away for Leeds United.
It is two year ago since Leeds United came close to pulling off a transfer for Italian striker Leonardo Pavoletti.
The Yorkshire Evening Post reported Pavoletti even travelled to Leeds to have a tour of the facilities with a view to a potential move, only for the Whites to fail to close the deal.
Leonardo Pavoletti
He ended up being sold by Sassuolo to Genoa, in a deal which eventually cost £3 million.
That fee appears a worthwhile investment, with Pavoletti now on the verge of a move to Napoli.
Italian newspaper Il Mattino report the clubs are in advanced negotiations over a £15m deal, with Pavoletti set to sign a contract until 2021.
The striker has scored three goals this season in nine games, and even earned a call-up to the Italy national squad.
Edgar Cani
In 2015, Leeds United ended up with a loan deal for Edgar Cani instead, with the Albanian failing to make an impression.
Leeds owner Massimo Cellino would have been better off shelling out, although Pavoletti was reluctant to leave Italy, his trip to England showed he was at least open to it.
Genoa’s deal has turned into a shrewd piece of business, and Cellino must be regretting not closing the transfer of a player now commanding a fee mirroring the figure Alan Shearer once moved for a British record.
