The 2026 PGA Tour season has been a strange one for Scottie Scheffler in some ways.
On paper, it looks like Scheffler has dominated once again, with one win and nine top-5 finishes to his name in 14 PGA Tour starts.
However, delve a little deeper and the 30-year-old simply hasn’t been the same player so far this year.
Is the era of Scottie Scheffler dominance now over?
How concerned are you with his current form?
Scottie Scheffler quite clearly hasn’t been at his absolute best on the PGA Tour in 2026.
The 20-time PGA Tour winner’s distance control with his irons has been nowhere near the levels he has reached over the past few years.
And when he gets into a position to win, he seems to struggle getting over the line, with four runner-up finishes to his name this season.
Scheffler lost a playoff to Viktor Hovland at the Travelers Championship on Monday, and that kind of summed up his 2026 season so far.
In the past, we have been used to Scheffler producing his best golf when it matters the most, but that quite simply hasn’t happened this season.
Scottie Scheffler’s two weaknesses over the weekend at the Travelers
The world number one’s game definitely deteriorated during the final two rounds in Cromwell, Connecticut.
When Scheffler held the lead heading into the third round and the pressure rose, his swing started to desert him ever so slightly.
The same can be said of his feel and touch when it came to his chipping and pitching around the greens.
Scheffler ranked ninth in strokes gained off the tee on day one of the Travelers and 20th on day two.
However, he slipped down to 41st on day three and 35th during the final round.

On day one, Scheffler ranked 12th in strokes gained around the greens and 39th on day two.
However, over the weekend he was ranked 47th and 62nd in strokes gained around the greens respectively.
Those numbers represent a huge drop-off for the world number one when the pressure was at its most intense.
However, there is a positive that the 30-year-old can take away from his weekend performance at TPC River Highlands.
One huge positive for Scottie Scheffler ahead of The Open
Scheffler’s next PGA Tour event will be at the Scottish Open in nine days’ time, before he heads to Royal Birkdale to defend his Open Championship title.
He has been the best and most consistent player in 2026, but the fact that he has only won once will be grating on him internally.
The 30-year-old from Dallas, Texas, still has a great chance to turn 2026 into an incredibly successful season by winning The Open and maybe one of the playoff events in August.
The good news for Scottie Scheffler is that he will be under no illusions as to what part of his game he needs to work on ahead of his two-week stint on the British Isles.
First and foremost, he needs to tighten up his driving. The fact that he lost strokes on the field off the tee during the final two rounds of the Travelers would have seriously angered him.
Scheffler has been putting far too much left-to-right curve on his golf ball with the driver all season really, and especially over the past two months.
That simply won’t work around the Renaissance Club and Royal Birkdale.
Secondly, he needs to sharpen up his short game. His chipping and pitching were so uncharacteristically poor during the final two rounds of the Travelers, and his sloppy short game cost him dearly on numerous occasions.
At least he knows the two areas that he needs to work on the most ahead of his trip over to Scotland and England.
And if Scottie Scheffler does manage to improve his driving and chipping, he may well end up turning what has been a fairly mediocre season by his standards into a truly spectacular one.
