Leeds United have problems to solve.

A surprise defeat to Swansea City has put a real dampener on Leeds United’s start to the season.

The 1-0 loss highlighted two real issues which Leeds have to be worried about, and which could derail their promotion push.

Wasting chances

Leeds United attempted a total of 21 shots against Swansea at the weekend.

Worryingly only three landed on target.

This speaks for itself in regard to why they were unable to break the deadlock.

Leeds were then made to pay, with Swansea scoring a late winner.

Worryingly this was a repeat of games last season, and it showed Marcelo Bielsa has not yet been able to solve it.

Missed chances in games cost Leeds dear last season and saw them throw away an automatic promotion place to finish third.

This defeat also saw Leeds slip from first to third, and it is the sort of result Leeds desperately want to avoid.

Defeats can be easier to take if the team are outplayed. Instead Leeds dominated the game, and their failure to win is made even more frustrating.

Home form

Including results at the end of last season, Leeds have now won only one of their last seven matches at Elland Road.

There is no dressing this up as any kind of positive, it is a big concern.

This season Leeds have gained just four points from a possible nine at Elland Road in three games.

Their away form has been terrific, but Leeds need to figure it out at home.

Elland Road can be a big advantage for Leeds at times, with vociferous supporters packed in, with the highest average attendance in the Championship.

Sometimes the expectation is so high it can weigh on the players, with the pivotal home loss against Sheffield United last season a case in point.

Leeds need to figure this out, in conjunction with converting their possession into goals.

Managing to get an early lead in home games would make a huge difference.
