Silas Wamangituka and Noa Lang are going from strength to strength this season with two of Celtic’s one-time transfer targets now valued in excess of £18 million, according to reports on the continent.
Amid all the criticism of Celtic’s recruitment – the high-profile struggles of Vasilis Barkas, Albian Ajeti and Shane Duffy – questions can also be asked about who the Hoops didn’t sign.
According to Goal, the Glasgow giants were interested in bringing in the twinkle-toed Lang from Eredivisie leaders Ajax.
Club Brugge won the race for his signature instead, however, and their £5.5 million investment has been repaid with interest.
In 29 games, Lang has produced an impressive 13 goals and nine assists for the team sitting 19 points clear in the Belgian top flight, a staggering overhead kick against Kortrijk in November the highlight.
According to Het Nieuwsblad, Lang’s market value has soared during his time in Brugge, going from £5.5 million to £18 million in just six months.
If reports are to be believed, it will take even more than that to lure Silas Wamangituka away from Stuttgart.
MilanLive claims one of the fastest players in the Bundesliga is now valued at about £23 million, catching the eye of Bayern Munich, RB Leipzig, AC Milan and Borussia Dortmund during a season full of breakneck assists and slaloming solo goals a young, carpet-chested Ryan Giggs would have been proud to call his own.
But if Neil Lennon had his way, Wamangituka would have joined Celtic for a bargain £4.5 million in summer 2019 (Sun).
Lennon travelled to France to watch the then little-known forward in action for Paris FC against Valenciennes two years ago. Now he’s one of Germany’s most feared forwards and a target for Bayern, PSG, Dortmund and co.
Who knows, if Wamangituka had joined Celtic two years ago, would Lennon still be in a job?
