The Saints reached the fourth round of the competition after a superb win over their bitter rivals.

Two Southampton players have been recognised for their midweek exploits by being named in WhoScored’s Best XI of the Carabao Cup third round, as per the football statistics giant’s official website.
The Saints surged into round four of the competition thanks to their 4-0 hammering of rivals Portsmouth, with Danny Ings’s brace and further goals from Cedric Soares and Nathan Redmond ensuring victory at Fratton Park.
WhoScored put together the XI based on the players with the highest ratings for each position, and the two Southampton stars who made the cut were goalkeeper Alex McCarthy and defender Maya Yoshida.
The Saints keeper returned a WhoScored rating of 7.82 as he made four saves against a Pompey side who launched numerous attacks and had several good chances against Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side, proving crucial to keeping a clean sheet.

As for Yoshida, his seven aerial duels, five interceptions, four clearances and two tackles were also key in Southampton’s defence keeping their rivals’ attacks at bay as much as they could (official WhoScored website) and gave him a 8.23 rating.
Also in the team are four Arsenal players (Calum Chambers, Joe Willock, Reiss Nelson and Gabriel Martinelli), two apiece from Chelsea (Kurt Zouma and Michy Batshuayi) and Leicester City (Demarai Gray and Youri Tielemans), and one from Liverpool (James Milner).
Ralph Hasenhuttl’s charges will take on reigning champions Manchester City in the next round, making the trip to the Etihad Stadium in the week beginning October 28, the same week they play there in the Premier League, with that fixture tabled in for November 2.
