Should Tottenham to MLS for short-term Harry Kane cover?

Tottenham Hotspur need alternatives to Harry Kane and it is unclear if they are willing to spend money on a replacement.

One unusual solution would be to target a striker from Major League Soccer, with America’s top league not starting until March.

There is precedent for this happening before, with Everton twice signing Landon Donovan, and Aston Villa also loaning in Robbie Keane.

There are two big name strikers who Tottenham should try to benefit from for a month to six weeks, who could transform their season.

Spurs would not be paying a big transfer fee or a lumbered with a player they don’t want long term.

Wayne Rooney

D.C. forward Wayne Rooney (9) celebrates a 2nd half goal that he scored on a free kick during DC United's defeat of the Portland Timbers 4-1 in Washington, DC on August 15, 2018.

England and Manchester United’s record goalscorer may relish a break from the US to return briefly to England.

He left Everton for DC United last summer and was a big success on the pitch scoring 12 goals, only to recently have some troubles off it.

With his family reportedly homesick for England, Spurs could offer an ideal change of scene.

Rooney, 33, would have no trouble adapting to playing with former England teammates Dele Alli and Danny Rose, and could be attracted by the idea of challenging himself one last time.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic

Now this would be a statement from Spurs, although it would be a harder deal to pull off than Wayne Rooney.

The LA Galaxy striker’s spell at Manchester United ended disappointingly after injury and he may feel he wants one last crack at English football.

The Express claimed that Spurs made a late approach to Zlatan just before he signed with United.

The Swedish striker scored 22 goals in 27 games last season, showing he still has plenty more to offer.
