Leeds United ground out a hard-fought win over Bolton Wanderers on Saturday.

David Wheater has told Bolton Wanderers’ official website that Leeds United scored two ‘rubbish goals’ against him and his team-mates on Saturday.

Leeds managed to grind out a 2-1 win over the Trotters at Elland Road yesterday to maintain their push for automatic promotion into the Premier League.

Patrick Bamford opened the scoring from the penalty spot on 15 minutes, before Ezgjan Alioski grabbed a farcical winner when his cross floated into the net on 68 minutes.

Marcelo Bielsa’s United side have won praise for their brand of attacking football this season, but centre-back Wheater says that he and his team-mates take heart in the fact that the hosts didn’t score any ‘decent goals’.

He told Bolton’s website: “Two rubbish goals really, weren’t they. We haven’t been undone by any magic.

“Obviously they were mistakes, but they were silly mistakes that we shouldn’t be making. We take confidence that they haven’t scored any decent goals, or passed straight through us or something like that.”

The goals might not have been too aesthetically pleasing, but Leeds fans won’t care in the slightest.

At this stage of the season it’s about getting results, not performances, and it’s a much-needed three points for Bielsa’s troops, who sit third in the Championship.

The Whites are behind second-placed Sheffield United on goal difference, and two points behind Norwich City with a game in hand.
