West Ham United are interested in signing Guillermo Maripan from Alaves in the summer transfer window, according to The Daily Mail.

It has been reported that West Ham are offering around £9.5 million for the 24-year-old central defender, who is claimed to have a buyout clause of £21m.

Italian giants AS Roma are reported to be interested in the Chile international as well.

According to The Daily Mail, Roma have held talks with Alaves in recent weeks and are in pole position for the defender.

Missing out?

It is hard to see Alaves sell Maripan for £9.5m when the defender’s buyout clause is £21m.

True, the Spanish club could be willing to negotiate over a transfer fee less than his buyout clause, but £9.5m does seem too low.

Roma could find themselves in the Champions League next season, and that will be more enticing for Maripan than playing for a West Ham team who could fail to make the top 10 in the Premier League this campaign.
