Steven Gerrard’s Rangers side produced arguably their best result since he took over at Ibrox with an excellent 3-1 win over Rapid Vienna in the Europa League – and two Gers loanees have reacted on Twitter.

Rangers went 1-0 down to Rapid towards the end of the first half, as the Austrian outfit controversially scored through Veton Berisha despite replays suggesting winger Ivan was offside in the build up to the goal.

But Rangers replied instantly. Alfredo Morelos got on the end of a superb Daniel Candeias cross, before the Colombian earned his side a penalty in the 84th minute. James Tavernier converted.

With Rapid pushing, Morelos was put through by Candeias again and with only the goalkeeper to beat, he showed composure which has sometimes been lacking to make the score 3-1. Hardie and Docherty reacted with delight.

Rangers have been excellent in Europe, yet to lose in 10 games this season and leading Group G after a draw against Villarreal and Thursday night’s win. Spartak Moscow and Villarreal drew 3-3.

The Gers are next in action on Sunday afternoon, as they play host to leaders Hearts at Ibrox in what will be a hugely important clash.

Docherty has been in superb form on loan at League One side Shrewsbury Town, scoring two goals in nine games, while Hardie has made just one substitute appearance for Livingston this season as he overcomes an injury.
