Newcastle United suffered late heartbreak at Wolverhampton Wanderers on Monday night as they could only draw 1-1 at Molineux.
The Magpies travelled to Molineux with hopes of springing something of a shock, given that Wolves had won their last three Premier League games.
Newcastle weathered an early storm from Wolves but gradually grew into the game, and took the lead in the second half when Isaac Hayden beat Rui Patricio at his near post.
Newcastle were solid and composed, leaving Wolves frustrated until Willy Boly headed home at the back post, but it was controversial for two reasons.
The first was that Boly’s goal went in well after the four minutes of added time had been played, and the second was because some felt goalkeeper Martin Dubravka had been fouled.
Newcastle had to go home with just a point, but they did manage to give a debut to playmaker Miguel Almiron, who arrived at the club from Atlanta United in a club-record deal on deadline day.
Almiron was busy and absolutely rapid, whilst he also created one chance for Ayoze Perez in a promising showing as a substitute, but his disappointment after Boly’s equaliser was clear.
