Paul Scholes has spoken about the battle between Marcus Rashford and Kyle Walker during Manchester United’s 3-1 defeat to Manchester City on Sunday.
The two players are familiar with one another because they have trained together quite a lot with England.
But Paul Scholes thinks Marcus Rashford was ‘worried’ about his rival over the weekend and it was proven by Phil Foden’s equalising goal, as he told Premier League Productions (03/03/24 at 5:45 pm).
The Manchester United forward was calling for a foul when he was chased down by the £45 million star, just before Manchester City equalised, with Paul Scholes stating that he was more concerned about the right-back than the ball.
But many thought there was nothing in that moment, play continued, the home team got the ball, progressed it forward again and Phil Foden did the rest.
Paul Scholes felt that there were several occasions when Marcus Rashford was seemingly fearful about Kyle Walker being on his shoulder, which affected his game.
Kyle Walker v Marcus Rashford
“I thought he was worried about Kyle Walker,” said Scholes. “He forgot about the ball and thinks ‘I have to get in front of Kyle Walker’.
“It happened two or three times, I think the third time when he had the header. He is conscious of Kyle Walker and Kyle Walker, at the minute, he has got that influence on people because he is so quick.”

Marcus Rashford’s performance
There was a lot of talk around Rashford heading into the game amid the criticism he has been receiving for his performances this season.
Within eight minutes, he made everyone know about his talents by scoring a stunning long-range effort, once again proving hiss incredible ball-striking ability.
Manchester United fans were in dreamland. They felt that there was a chance of securing an unlikely win at the home of their bitter rivals.
But, aside from that goal, Rashford had a pretty quiet game and he didn’t have much of an effect, with Pep Guardiola’s side going on to do what everyone expected, and that’s secure the three points.
