Leeds have swooped on Everton once, will they do it again?

Leeds United moved to sign Matthew Pennington on loan from Everton last month and have high hopes for the centre-back.

Everton’s spending spree has pushed emerging talent to the fringes of their squad, and Pennington is not the only one to leave on loan, with Kieran Dowell signing for Nottingham Forest.

There are two further Everton players who Leeds should target, one very realistic and one very ambitious…

Luke Garbutt

Left-back Luke Garbutt left Leeds in 2009 to join Everton, but remarkably has only played 12 first team games for the club.

He has spent most of his time out on loan, last season spending time at Wigan Athletic.

His days at Everton look numbered and Leeds may even have a chance of a permanent deal.

A rumoured move for Cameron Borthwick-Jackson on loan could lessen the need for Garbutt, but it would be better for the Whites to sign a player on a permanent deal than just for the season.

Garbutt is a former England under-21 international who needs a move. A return to Leeds for the Harrogate born talent could be just the answer.

Ademola Lookman

Lookman became the most expensive teenager ever bought from a League One side earlier this year when he signed for Everton from Charlton.

He scored on his debut against Manchester City but struggled to replicate his hot start.

Everton fans would like to see him stick around this season especially with Romelu Lukaku’s departure, yet even with the Belgian gone his first team chances are unclear.

Lookman was a substitute last night in the Europa League, and he may be hoping no more signings are made by the Toffees before the transfer window.

That looks unlikely with the Toffees looking to sign another striker, and Everton could decide that Lookman will be better off in that case playing first team football out on loan.

His ability to play up front and out wide could benefit Leeds United, and his capture could be a promotion winning one if Leeds could pull it off.
