It’s been almost two weeks since Ange Postecoglou made history by guiding Tottenham Hotspur to Europa League glory – but his future at the club is still up in the air
After 17 years of agonising hurt, Postecoglou led Tottenham to the promised land on that iconic night in Bilbao.
If being the man to finally end that barren trophy drought wasn’t enough, Postecoglou’s triumph was made ever sweeter with the completion of this audacious quote.
Back in September, he said, “I usually win things in my second season. Nothing has changed. I don’t say things unless I believe them.”

The charismatic Greek manager defied all odds to back this up and prove every journalist wrong.
But despite making history, Spurs’ chairman Daniel Levy hasn’t come out publicly backing his manager and is instead rumoured to be making a decision on his future in the coming days.
He won’t want to wait around as the transfer window is already open, with Bayern Munich’s Leroy Sane linked to Tottenham.
If the Spurs job is opened up, there are two leading candidates.
Thomas Frank and Marco Silva are two options for Tottenham job
While winning the Europa League has changed Tottenham fans’ opinions on Postecoglou, with supporters across north London now on cloud nine, the situation upstairs at Spurs isn’t so cheery.
Levy and Co have to decide whether winning The Lilywhites’ first trophy in almost two decades makes up for the utterly dismal 17th-place finish in the Premier League.
This is Spurs’ worst top-flight league finish since 1978.
According to Fabrizio Romano, if Tottenham are to pull the plug, then Brentford’s Thomas Frank and Fulham’s Marco Silva are two options for the north London side.
Spurs may need to move quickly if Silva is their desired candidate, though, as the Portuguese coach has reportedly built up interest in Italy from Juventus.
Likewise, with Frank, Brentford will want to know sooner rather than later if their coach, who’s been at the club for just shy of seven years, is to leave west London.
The crucial consideration for Levy is whether Frank and Silva are a step up on Postecoglou.

How Postecoglou compares to Frank and Silva
With Tottenham’s terrible league campaign compared to the success of Brentford and Fulham’s, it might seem obvious that Postecoglou isn’t the right man for the job and that there are better options available – but it’s not always as simple as this.
| Managers: | League points in 24/25 | Win percentage across all competitions (this season) | Injuries (this season) | Trophies (this season) |
| Ange Postecoglou | 38 | 43.3% | 41 | 1 |
| Thomas Frank | 56 | 44.2% | 26 | 0 |
| Marco Silva | 54 | 43.2% | 24 | 0 |
Postecoglou’s Spurs finished 12 places lower and dropped 28 more points this league campaign, compared to 23/24.
He finished 16 points below Silva and 18 points below Frank, with fewer wins in the league.
Where Postecoglou shines, though, is his knack for winning trophies.
He’s succeeded in England, Japan, Australia and Scotland, famously winning the domestic treble with Celtic in 2023.
Frank got Brentford up to the top flight through the Championship play-offs but hasn’t won anything since.
Silva has been more successful than Frank, winning the Championship with Fulham, the Greek top division with Olympiacos and the Portuguese Cup with Sporting.
It’s clear that whatever happens this week, it’ll be a huge seven days for the future of Tottenham Hotspur.
