St Mirren’s Jack Ross and Swansea City’s Cameron Toshack are favourites to succeed Paul Heckingbottom at Barnsley, according to bookmakers Sky Bet.
The Sun reported on Wednesday that both managers have held talks about taking the reins at Oakwell.
Ross, who shot to the top of the betting on Tuesday, remains odds-on [4/5] to land the Barnsley vacancy, with Toshack now 3/1.
As a result of his odds shortening, the 47-year-old, who managed Swansea’s Under-23s to the Premier League 2 title last season, has moved ahead of a number of other contenders including Paul Simpson [7/1], Mick McCarthy [9/1] and Paul Harsley [11/1], the current Barnsley caretaker.
Both Ross [Stevie Mallan] and Toshack [Oli McBurnie] have seen players depart their respective sides for Barnsley over the past eight months.
