Southampton and Stoke midfielders could both move to Glasgow Rangers.

Glasgow Rangers boss Steven Gerrard has a decision to make this January amid recent reports in The Express that he wants to sign a midfielder.

He has the option of two former Rangers midfielders, Charlie Adam and Steven Davis. It should be an easy choice.

Adam told The Daily Record this week he is keen on a loan move and Rangers are his ideal choice.

The Belfast Telegraph reported a fortnight earlier that Rangers have initiated contact over bringing back Steven Davis.

Adam’s comments should not make Rangers deviate from their plan to re-sign Davis.

Davis is 11 months older than Adam, and turns 34 in January.

Despite this he is playing at a higher level than Adam, who has barely featured at all this season.

Davis recently showed his quality by starring for Northern Ireland at international level.

He can form a spine of Northern Irish internationals through the Rangers side, along with Kyle Laffery and Gareth McAuley. The duo would help Davis settle instantly.

Charlie Adam meanwhile can’t get a game for Stoke in England’s second division, playing just 55 minutes all season in the Championship.

Davis has fared little better in the Premier League, playing only twice for Southampton, which aids Rangers’ hopes to sign him.

Last season Davis made 17 starts in the top flight and six further appearances off the bench. Adam made five starts and six from the bench.

At his best, Adam is a player capable of influencing games and scoring from midfield, the problem is that the last time he scored more than one goal in a league season, it was 2014/15.

Rangers should move for Davis, who demonstrated for Northern Ireland at the weekend that he is still capable of doing what he does best.
