Two Everton attackers have better goalscoring rates than Romelu Lukaku

Everton have not had an ideal season, but there is some reason for optimism.

Losing Romelu Lukaku left Everton with a big void to fill this season and it has been tough for the Toffees so far.

Despite their struggles, there is reason for optimism, and comparisons to Romelu Lukaku’s form help highlight this.

Lukaku has had a productive season for Manchester United since his £75 million move, but it has not been quite as successful as he would like.

He is averaging a goal every 180 minutes – a figure which is bettered by two Everton forwards this season, Cenk Tosun and Oumar Niasse.

Lukaku has played more games this season than Tosun and Niasse have combined so far for Everton.

Yet this is no reason to dismiss the efforts of the Everton duo.

Tosun was Everton’s big money addition in January, and he was tasked with replacing Lukaku after it appeared nobody else was able to.

After a slow start the Turkish striker has picked up, and they might just have found a gem.

Niasse has been an enigma ever since signing for the Toffees.

He has made nine of his 18 appearances from the bench, and scored four of his three goals as a substitute.

He is proving to be a valuable squad player for the Toffees and when they survey the wreckage of a disappointing season, he is one of the players who will come out with some credit, and who has earned more chances for the future.
