Aston Villa are reportedly closing in on Thierry Henry.
Aston Villa only sacked Steve Bruce on Wednesday, but they appear to be on the verge of landing his successor this week.
With Bruce gone after just one win in nine games, The Mirror now report that Villa are closing in on a deal to make Thierry Henry their new manager.
The Frenchman is believed to be Villa Park-bound this week, as he closes in on his first managerial role having been on Roberto Martinez’s coaching staff with the Belgian national team.
Appointing Henry is certainly a gamble as the 41-year-old has little experience, but two players brought in by Bruce in August will be ecstatic to see the Arsenal legend arrive at Villa Park.
In 2016, now-Villa winger Yannick Bolasie – who was curiously under-utilised by Bruce – told Everton’s official website that he wanted to be like Henry, and even picked the number 14 shirt at Goodison Park due to Henry’s success.
The French-born DR Congo international isn’t the only one though, as striker Tammy Abraham also told the Bristol Post that Henry was his hero growing up, and was a boyhood Arsenal fan off the back of Henry being such a great.
Both players have incredible, Premier League quality, and Henry must get the best out of the pair if he is to drive Villa up the table – and he can be sure that the duo will put in maximum effort and commitment given that they will be playing for their hero.
