As the January transfer window draws to a close, Newcastle United fans are eagerly anticipating any potential additions to the squad.

As the richest club in the world, Newcastle are certainly a team to keep an eye on on deadline day.

So far, the Magpies have only signed young attacker Anthony Gordon from Everton and Garang Kuol, who has since headed out on loan, but with reports of more signings on the horizon, there is reason for excitement heading into deadline day.

Newcastle currently sit third in the league, with manager Eddie Howe seeking to bolster his squad for a sustained push for European football.

The addition of Anthony Gordon gives the side more depth in attack, but fans will be looking for further reinforcements in key areas such as defence and midfield.

One such addition could be young right-back Harrison Ashby. The talented defender has been making waves fro West Ham at youth level., and a fee has reportedly been agreed for his signature.

Another area where Newcastle could look to bring in reinforcements is in midfield. The arrival signing of Conor Gallagher from Chelsea has been discussed in recent weeks, and it’s believed that the Magpies are keen on a late loan move.

Sander Berge of Sheffield United has also been linked with a loan move to St James’ Park, but reports suggest that Fulham have made an offer for the midfielder, making it less likely that he will end up at Newcastle as the Blades need cash up front due to their transfer embargo, while Newcastle are just offering a loan.

With all of this in mind, we’ve had a go at predicting Newcastle’s potential post deadline-day starting XI.

Of course, Kieran Trippier will be the starting right-back, but Ashby is in our team for the sake of this exercise.

With Jonjo Shelvey on his way out, Gallagher is the player we’re tipping to come in and replace him as Chelsea push again to try to sign Enzo Fernandez.

With the club in such a strong position in the league, a few key additions could make a huge difference in the second half of the season.

Regardless of what happens in the final hours of the transfer window, Newcastle United have already shown that they are a force to be reckoned with this season. With a solid squad, an attacking style of play, and a talented manager in Eddie Howe, the future looks bright for the Magpies and their current crop of players.
