Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea was a high profile omission from the recently announced Ballon d’Or shortlist.

France Football announced the 30-man list of nominees on Monday, with four goalkeepers named.

They included Juventus stopper Gianluigi Buffon, Atletico Madrid’s Jan Oblak, Sporting Lisbon’s Rui Patricio, and the Premier League and Tottenham Hotspur’s Hugo Lloris.

Lloris was part of the French side which reached the Euro 2016 final this past summer, impressing in the process, while unlike David de Gea, he is playing Champions League football at present.

De Gea did win a trophy this past season, the FA Cup, but it is hard to argue with Lloris’ recent record for Tottenham, who are yet to concede a goal from open play in the Premier League this season.

Here is a look at the split reaction from supporters of various clubs via Twitter…

Fans will have to agree to disagree on this one, and while De Gea would be a worthy nominee, it is hard really to credibly argue that Lloris is undeserving of his recognition.
