Thomas Tuchel, Carlo Ancelotti and Sean Dyche have been joined by none other than Phil Neville in speculation surrounding the vacant Everton job.
Phil Neville has never managed a football club since his playing days came to an end four years ago.
The former England international may have coached at Manchester United and Valencia, not to mention a short-lived stint as caretaker boss of the Salford City side he co-owns with his fellow ‘class of 92’ graduates, but this is a different world entirely to taking on the main job at a club in crisis.
And what better way to get your managerial career off the ground. Turning around an Everton side who have endured their worst start to the season since 2004/05, and sacked manager Ronald Koeman after spending £140 million on a number of underperforming new signings, would make Neville an instant hero once again with Toffees supporters.
The likelihood, however, is that such a high pressure job has come far too soon for a man without any managerial experience on his CV.
The report adds that experienced coaches like Carlo Ancelotti, Sean Dyche and Thomas Tuchel are more Everton’s cup of tea.
Though, in the eyes of some fans, at least Neville taking the Everton job would save Match of the Day viewers from his imitable dulcet tones.
