Tottenham Hotspur’s Juan Foyth played for Argentina against Mexico on Saturday morning.
Whilst the UEFA Nations League has been dominating the headlines in the international break, games have been going on all over the world in recent days.
Over in South America, Argentina hosted Mexico in the early hours of Saturday morning, with interim boss Lionel Scaloni in charge again following Jorge Sampaoli’s summer exit.
Scaloni has been naming experimental sides, and he claimed another win, his third in five games in charge of his country with a 2-0 win over Mexico.
Ex-Everton defender Ramiro Funes Mori ghosted in at the back post to head home a first half free kick, before Mexico’s Isaac Brizuela scored an own goal to make it 2-0.
Argentina look to be building themselves back up after some chaotic years, and the emergence of young players such as Tottenham’s Juan Foyth is certainly helping.
Foyth only made his first Premier League start earlier this month, but has already impressing under Mauricio Pochettino, and was subsequently handed a first Argentina start.
The 20-year-old defender again impressed, winning the man of the match award after a fine performance, with fans taken to Twitter to hail his display, calling him ‘amazing’ whilst tipping him for a huge future with Spurs; just what Pochettino will have wanted to see.
