Everton finally sold Idrissa Gueye to Paris Saint-Germain this summer – and the Ligue 1 champions will feel he was worth the wait.

The Toffees stood firm and blocked their star midfielder from leaving for PSG in January, but faced renewed interest from the French giants this summer.

Thomas Tuchel got his man in the end, landing him alongside Manchester United’s Ander Herrera as PSG went for two hard-working, proven players rather than the usual big-name additions.

Last night, Gueye started in midfield against Real Madrid, and he served up a superb display as PSG blew Zinedine Zidane’s men aside at the Parc des Princes.

Gueye, Marquinhos and Marco Verratti dominated the midfield, and two Angel Di Maria goals – the second of which was set up by Gueye’s tenacity – had PSG 2-0 up at the break.

Real had two goals ruled out, and Thomas Meunier rounded off the win in added time as Real pushed forward in search of a way back into the game.

Usually it’s Neymar or Kylian Mbappe earning the plaudits and headlines at PSG, but this time it was Gueye, with fans taking to Twitter to hail his performance.

Some believe Gueye has made a huge upgrade in leaving Everton for PSG, praising him as ‘immense’ and ‘the signing of the summer’, even claiming he has ‘improved massively’ on the ball in his short time away from Everton.
