Gerard Deulofeu provided an assist in AC Milan win.

After being called out by AC Milan coach Vincenzo Montella at the weekend to step up, Gerard Deulofeu delivered last night.

The Everton loanee produced a moment of magic late in the game against Bologna, with a mazy run and superbly picked out pass which left midfielder Mario Pasalic with an empty net to score.

Pasalic, on loan from Chelsea, did not miss and gave Milan a 1-0 away win, and Deulofeu celebrated emotionally after the final whistle with his manager, almost looking teary eyed.

Milan’s victory was even more impressive because they had been reduced to nine men, with Juraj Kucka and ex-Liverpool youth player Gabriel Paletta sent off.

Deulofeu was allowed to leave Everton in January on loan having made only four league starts this season with manager Ronald Koeman unconvinced over his future, and Milan were quick to oblige and snap him up.

The once great Italian superpower moved into seventh in Serie A as a result of last night’s win, and will hope to see plenty more impact from the attacker between now and the end of the season.

Deulofeu has great potential but often flattered to deceive at Everton, and will need to show the Milan faithful that this was no flash in the pan.
