Arsenal have finally announced the signing of Spanish forward Lucas Perez from Deportivo La Coruna for a fee believed to be around £17.1 million.
With Valencia centre back and German International Shkodran Mustafi also looking set to join the North London club over the coming days, we take a look at just how Arsenal fans have reacted to the news on Twitter.
Wenger finally spends
Whilst Perez may not represent the £50+ million signing that many Arsenal fans were hoping would be made at the start of this transfer window, he does represent a talented, and technically adept forward, who could theoretically slot right into Arsenal’s starting line-up.
Despite this fact however, some fans were still quick to point out that Perez does not possess the stellar goal-scoring record that many were expecting, and that – when compared to rival teams’ key men up front – the Spaniard still might struggle to live up to demands at the Emirates.
Despite this negativity and hesitancy from some fans however, many more were delighted at the clubs acquisition, and were quick to welcome the player to the club.
As with all players in the Premier League however, once Perez is given his chance in Arsenal’s team, the only way he will be able to keep the fans on-side, is if he performs for the club on a weekly basis.
Having already been spurned in their advances to sign Alexandre Lacazette this transfer window, and with current striker Olivier Giroud having frequently come under criticism during his time at the club for lack of consistency, finding this balance and ability to turn in high quality performance each and every week, is surely going to be the biggest factor in deciding how fans will look back at this signing over the years to come.
