Jackie McNamara pledged to resign if they failed to win their next match but the club were left short-handed by his departure.

York City are confusing fans after manager Jackie McNamara stepped down only to be kept on as caretaker manager until his replacement could be found.
McNamara took charge of the Minstermen more than a year ago but was unable to save them from crashing out of the Football League.
Now the club sits in 19th place in the National League having won just three of 15 matches, prompting McNamara to state that he would leave the club should they not get a “positive result” from their away match against Braintree.
York led Braintree 1-0 for most of the game until they conceded a penalty in the 88th minute and the match ended with a draw.
The former Celtic player agreed to step down as a result but, with no immediate replacement ready to take his place, the club asked him to remain in charge until the next boss could be found.
The club’s statement read: “It has been decided, in the best interest of York City Football Club, that Jackie McNamara step down as First Team Manager.
“After purposeful discussions it was agreed that results and performances, in the main, have not been acceptable nor have they achieved the high standards expected.
“In order to assist the managerial transition period and to accommodate a thorough identification, interview and appointment process, the Chairman has asked Jackie McNamara to train and prepare the team until a suitable candidate has been determined.”
The bizarre situation has, understandably, left football fans everywhere confused as the 42-year-old has agreed to continue training the squad until a replacement has been found.
The club expect to find a replacement within two weeks, at which point McNamara can move on from his position with the club.
